Thanks: 1 times
made my first run this weekend with a sugar wash through a short reflux length on the Extractor II. I have a parrot inline and was getting 140 proof at 72 degrees through most of the run. The final middles collected to be about a half of a gallon at 160 proof overall.

I figure a few more runs of sugar washes to refine my technique of separating the heads and tails. Then on to explore different recipes for a vodka and bourbon. Any comments from the forum on how to get a good cut on the heads?

I am keeping all of the product except the initial 50 ml or so that came off before 173 degrees F. I figure that this is my equivalent to the 'feints'

Foreshots are what comes out first and need to be discarded.
About 6oz. per 5gal. of wash.
just to be safe.
'feints' are the heads and tails you save to run again.
either with other runs or by themselves after you have saved up enough
