I'm just getting into this hobby, and while shopping around to get my first batch of ingredients, I'm wondering about cracked corn sold as animal feed. Is there any reason this would not be fit for human consumption? I'm not concerned about dirt and bugs, I'm more concerned with pesticides or other chemicals from processing that may make it not recommended for mashing. If it's all generally ok, is there any difference between cracked corn sold as birdseed, chicken feed, or other animal feed? Where do you purchase yours?

My understanding that feed for horses and deer is safe because those animals are very sensitive. I have used it but is not malted if you need conversion. I still look at the ingredients an avoid any preservatives except vitamin c Remember that the research is always your responsibility--Don't believe it unless you triple check it for yourself :)

you can get cracked corn from most any feed. I use it for UJSSM. Most are triple cleaned.Tractor supply has 50# for 8.99 but I usually buy from a mom and pop shop http://www.tractorsupply...eg%3B-cracked-corn-50-lb

It's definitely not safe to consume animal feed.

50lbs sack of cracked corn from tractor supply is safe.
And even buying enzymes
(which you will need to convert starchs to sugar)
will still cheaper than sugar.
and taste better.

Why do you think animal feed like cracked corn or all grain sweet feed is not safe ? I use both all the time and get outstanding results
