"Newbie here and I am looking for recommendations on what to buy.
Looking at PSII HC, not sure what I should use for heat source and what are good/recommended additions for the still.
Will most likely get the stainless steal filter funnel/column.
I can spend around $1000 Canadian Dollarydoos.

I still have lots of reading to do but I figure since it will take at least 2 months to receive once I have ordered that will give me some time.

Any thoughts?

Thanks,"

I like using water heater elements. They can put NPT fittings into kettle to screw in and you can get a router speed controller to control the heat. If you get bigger than an 8 gal I would also put a drain in it

I am looking at 8 Gal premium Kettle, would it be hard to to setup the WH elements and router speed control? I am technically savy so I can usually figure these things pretty good.

its a snap- most of us do it- do you have both a 110 volt and a 220 volt supply handy?? I have the 8 gallon and would like to have the 15 gallon boiler.

I would suggest the 15 gallon boiler. This will give you the option to do larger runs. With the 8 gallon you can only do smaller runs. With the 15 gallon I would suggest a drain.

I wish I'd had a drain installed in the 15 gallon one.. it's a PITA to lift that and drain the backset out - it can be very heavy to hoist and drain with 10 gals of backset left in there. Even three gallons is fairly hefty with that big ole kettle.

Yup, I love my set up but wish I had got the drain. After the first time emptying the kettle I got an aquarium cleaning pump, works pretty good and gets all but the last few ounces.

Scotty,

I currently only have 110v/15amp in the room for this but I may change the breaker for 220v/30amp.

I was thinking about the 15 Gallon but the fact that it is so heavy with liquids makes me not want to and I doubt I will ever run more than say 6 gallons at a time.
Perhaps I need to still consider it just incase.

if you go with the 8gal a 1650w element with a 20amp RSC will work fine

We use a pump to empty ours-- I have the one Brewhaus sells-- it works well. The 115 volts is fine. If you has 220, you would heat up with a prox. 6KW 220 volt element---then switch to applying 110 volts to it with a router speed control. Applying 110 volts to a 220 volt element changer its wattage to 1/4 of its rating. IE. 6000 watts at 220 volts would be 1500 watts if you applied 110 volts-- Capt. jack has a nice control to control just 220 volts.

"dieseldue,

That sounds like a good idea to me.
Thanks

So PSII HC comlpete distiller, 8 gallon premium kettle, electric thermo, copper mesh packing.
WH element 1650watt and NPT fiiting, and speed control.
Stainless Filter.

What other additions are going to be good for me?
(already have lots of fermentation equipment as I make beer at home)

Thanks,
Sam"

that should do it if it's long enough. I got mine from lowes for about the same price but they had 2 one short and one long. The longer one reached about 3/4 of the way across the pot

Hi Kane

I was pretty sure either Lowes or Home Creepo websites had a volatage RSC's already built-but they are really limited. - I opted in a differnt direction myself so I did not pursue...

There are some pre-builds on ebay;
