"I know this is not a project....but I just got these new buckets from Firehouse Subs. They get pickles in them and they sell them to donate the $$$ to a charity of some kind. Of course they are food grade and they smell like pickles at first but I'm gonna fill em with water and add about 3/4 cup of bleach and let em soak for a while. I think they should make kinda cool fermenters and since I'm on the FD well it kinda fits.

N E way if ya need some these should work for ya if your interested.Cool"

Just my 2 cents. Vinegar is an acid. Bleach is an acid. I would use baking soda, a base, to clean out acid. Like buy a small box and dump that in with a full bucket and let it soak overnight.

"Oh I got cha...""Hell I'd piss on a spark plug if I thought it'd help"" ----thats from the movie War Games, just thought I would toss that in.
I've done the bleach thing before and it worked but I'll try the baking soda thing this time, it cant hurt and may be better than the other. Thx pal."

Check Subway's or any large deli - They use pickles by the barrel too.

Hey fellas, I'm having a hell of a time gettin the pickle aroma out of my buckets. I did the baking soda in one and bleach in the other ( over night ) and still they smell picklish, but I bet if I do a likker wash or two in em they will come along. I think I'll do likker wash before I do a beer wash just incase. Hmmmmmm pickle beer might be good. Oh well, I'll let em air until I get around to making a wash, hope yall have better luck with urs.

Guys, I tried this again with bleach, but this time I filled the buckets with water and added a cup of bleach....left them for 48+ hours and after dumping them and rinsing them out I thought ahhhhh success. Then a day or two later I happen to pick one up and givera sniff and by damned it still had that pickle aroma (albiet slighter than before) oh well I dont care I'm gonna use em anyway, I ordered a beer kit and I'm gonna add a hooch wash to the other , hell what can it hurt.
