I finished stilling out the liquor and cut it with distilled water like I have a hundred times before, then this is where I got stupid, I just added the essence without carbon filtering first. my question is it too late, would I wipe out the essence flavor by filtering now and just deal with what I've got , which is pretty darn good , or just sit on what I've got?

Mike,

From my days of making many 'interesting' mistakes with filtering, sadly yes. The carbon will filter out most, if not all, the flavor of the essence. Whats even worse is, if the essence you"re using has some component that is very molecularly small ,like the ether in citrus,, is will leave that essence in without the flavor to accompany it. Results are usually a really displeasurably funky in aroma.
Not a good idea. If the precut alcohol you had was a good reflux run and 92%+, you should have a damn good result regardless of filtering.

Just sit on what you've got.
