"I just finished running 8 gallons of sweet feed mash:

Recipe:
6 lbs of sugar
about 4"" of sweet grain pellets (Never again)
6 gallons water
about 3/4 bag of turbo 48 yeast

Mash ran for about 5 days

not sure what happened but the mash smelt a little pungent

after I finished dumping the heads and started collecting the hearts it has a very distinctive odor and it isn't very smooth.

My question is WHAT IN THE HELL DID I DO WRONG! sorry about the yelling but damm man it isn't at all what I thought was going to be good...

any thought on what happened...:"

i think you went wrong by using a turbo with sweet feed. Also try non pelletized sweet feed next time

i hate that grain in the pail recipe- I never tried it but it sounds like something they would do on moonshine tv. I think it's really a sugar wash with some grain stuck in it for appearance sake.

I am pretty new to all of this. What is the difference between a sweet feed and a sugar wash?

Sweet feed is a type of grain that has a bunch of different grains along with molasses...
Supposedly you won't have to use as much sugar with the wash...

I bet you did'nt do anything wrong unless you fermented too hot or it was the Turbo which by itself will indeed get warm.

If it had a pungent odor how did you know where the heads and hearts were seperated. Or did you collect in little jars??

8 gallon mash and only 6 lbs of sugar with a turbo, it soulds like the yeast overpowered your wash, I bet the grain thing isn't the problem because its just a flavor adding component to the wash.

Oh, you didn't dump the whole wash in the boiler did you???"
