"Hi all, back with more questions. I had a small pot still about 15 years ago and did ok with it.
With all the new information available now, thought i would get back into the hobby.

I have ordered the PSII HC but is is on backorder till April, so i just want to get everything in place for its arrival.

The first few runs will be sugar wash.

What will i need to setup a good shop.

I have 2 30 gallon food grade containers for fermenting.

6 food grade 5 gallon pails

An industrial type water chiller.

I am planning to build the 240 volt controller and a parrot from plans posted here.

What test equipment do i need, and where is the best place to buy?

Hope to have everything in place for an April delivery."

I'd look at the items listed in the fermenting kits to see if anything rings a bell.
filter kit maybe?
it'd be nice if someone could come up with (or list a link) to a distillers "medicine cabinet" for a few of the more common additives needed with a quick description on using them, such as calcium carbonate for raising the ph in backset.

i bought a dial thermometer for the column big enough to read from the ground. I thnk it was about 3" diameter.

a Ph tester - the Gold doesn't come with one. I got a Milwakuee tester (PH-600) which is uhber sensitive.

Also, go to Home Creepo or Lowe'rs and get a stainless paint stirring agitator to go on yer cordless drill to stir/aerate - Or a airstone and an aquarium pump - same deal - I went with the stirring thingie.

I also bought; 5 gal stainless BOP, ph balancer powder from BH, digital laser thermom (home Creepo), iodine, epsom salts, DAP, and star-san concentrate, distilled water, chem resistant spray bottles, a few cookie sheets to have a sterile work surface, some quart and pint Mason jars/lids for storage of yeast, Free 3.5g FG plastic Buckets from Safeway bakery to store grains in airtight recepticles, same for sugar....

Nice list, RCR. Several of those items went on my current "list" of things I forgot to pick up.

Heres a thread from another site that had a few ideas too

if it doesn't all you have to do is get a rubber grommet from lowes or some hardware store that fits your air lock and drill a hole the size of the inside diameter of the grommet

Hey captinjack,

I think these are 30 gallons, they seal up good. I have to put the airlocks in.

Then I have 6 of the 5 gallon food grade pails with screw on lids.

Everything is coming together real good. Looks like i may be out of town fro 2 weeks when the distiller shows up.

Hey Sawman,
Those 30g barrels could also double as containers for your cooling water if you don't want to run your water cooler and use that elect power. I ordered 2 of the bronze starter kits from BH and A friend gave me two- 61/2g glass carboys and I'm thinking of adding another 32L fermenter to my order from BH... I don't know what happened to your pic's but they look like there are gone.

"Hey captin,

Checked out the barrels this weekend, they are 20 gals (not 30) and this leaves about 2"" of head room at the top. Is this enough space? I am thinking about just doing 15 gallons and not worring about it.

I have a couple of new 30 gal trash cans for the water container. I am planning to run those wiit a pump in it and then chill the water if needed.

Not sure about the pictures, the first one links to someone else's pictures.

Also started receiving parts for the controller."
