Nope, no problems at all. I think the difference between the two thread types is the rise and fall of the threads. The simple solution is 4 or 5 rounds of pipe tape. The elements fit like a glove and there have been no leaks.

What size element did you install? I was looking at using a cameco ULWD 5500W element but that may be kind of tight.
How much did it cost to add the NTP coupler?

Make sure you have enough amps to drive that 5500w element.

My elements are 110v 2000w stainless and are about 8 inches long. It was 35 a piece for the npt's. Hope this helps you out.

I just ordered the 15 gal kit and had two 2" tri-clamp type ferrules added to the pot and a 3" ferrule added to the column. The cost was $45 labor + the cost of the 2" ferrules for the pot and $7.50 labor + the cost of the 3" ferrule. I'n mot sure if the cost of the labor depends on what's being ordered or not. I do know that Rick was very quick in answering any questions I had. I just placed the order so delivery might be a little while. When it comes in I can post a few pictures if you want me too.

flht01, Hey that's great you got your order in on that 15 gal. rig. I'm going to order mine soon when I scrape a few more dollars together... I was just wondering how you were going to hook up your heat elements to the 2" ferrules. what do you use and where do you get them?

I was able to buy the gaskets and clamps thru BH.

I must have read most of your posts on this forum and the CM mod's thread on the H-D forum before ordering. The kit I ended up with was the results of those discussions, looking forward to it. Now I just have to figure how I'm going to heat it. For now, I'm going to use a 220v element plugged directly into an outlet and swap over to a 120v variable autotransformer (already had one laying around) to maintain temp's much like ratflinger does. I'll build a controller later on.

I was looking at your second picture the one with your stuff laid out on the table and see 4 bags of the copper mesh, and I was wondering if that much comes with the column and you need that much or did you order extra?

Hi CJ,
You get all that copper as part of the PS2HC order. I think it is close to 120 feet total and you will use almost all of it to pack the column.

Yes both sections get packed for a reflux run. I think for a stripping or pot still run you would just use the top section with only one roll of packing.

I got mine on ebay but you can check out amazon also or just google water heater elements and there are lots to choose from...
