Hi Ryder, a lot of folks make a sweet feed mash and seem to like it. The sweetener in it is feed grade molassis.
My understanding, having never used it, is that the feed grade has sulfer in it which is something you'd want to try and take out by useing copper packing. I'm useing un sulfered food grade myself. It's more expensive but for me it's worth it.
Someone else that has made rum with feed grade could probably tell us more about any problems, if any.

Have Fun.

I bought some feed grade molassis but it had alot of preservatives in it. I didnt use it but dont know why. I went to Gordon Food service and got a gallon of it for about 15 bucks. It definately smells better than the feed grade stuff but like I said. I have no real clue.

What preservatives were listed in your feed grade molasses?? Was it intended to be usable in horse feed???

I have read that horses and deer are very sensative animals and things that can be fed to them are not dangerous to humans. I'm not saying this is fact but thats what i think i know. THINK I KNOW THINK I KNOW THINK I KNOW.

Hi Ryder,
I've tried to use feed grade molasses and it won't ferment because it is ""sulphured."" They use sulphur as a preservative. If you want to use molasses for fermentable sugars you need to get unsulphured blackstrap molasses. This can be found at your local grow shop.
Good Luck,
Rob"

If you look at the powdered molassis thread it will tell you about the sugar content of different grades of molassis. Does'nt menion feed grade though.
Feed grade also comes in an unsulfered form.
