"I'm getting ready to do a spirit run. I'm totally bored with how long it takes to heat up my PS2 hi cap on the modified hotplate. And I'm scared s

less about using the kitchen stove with a higher proof mix in the pot.

So I thought, why not put the stuff from the stripping runs int the pot and pre- heat on the hotplate and then bring some water to a boil, or almost, on the stove and add it to the mix. We think that at least 1/2 the column should be in place so we also preheat the copper packing, maybe the whole column.

I think that most of the water will have drained down by the time things are hot enough to distill so there won't be a disadvantage to having a column full of hot damp packing.

Anybody tried this or have any thoughts...

So I wasn't so rash as to pore water down the column. But I did heat the water to dilute the stripping run stuff. I added a gallon of just about boiling water to the pot and I preheated the column in the oven to 150 deg. Seemed to shorten the heat up time by almost 1 hour.
