My 1" drain plug won't screw in more than 3/4 of turn. I'm pretty sure it is not cross threaded but I'm not certain the thread spacing is correct.

Anyone else have this issue? possible solutions? I am not above going to the hardware store to get a couple options.

You've probably got an NPT thread and an NPS thread.

NPT - National Pipe Thread is a tapered thread meant to help seal the joint
NPS - National Pipe Straight is a straight thread

You probably have one of each.
