For my birthday, my wife gave me a $500 gift certificate to buy a still. My niece's husband has one, and his rye is good, so I thought I'd give it a try. I'm not going to make cases, but I want to distill enough product to make my time worthwhile. I'm a maker. I cook and bake bread. I paint and do photography. Garden with native plants. Fly fish & back pack. You get the idea. I'm interested in making rye and calvados (apples & pears), and I'm being encouraged to make gin. What recommendations do you have about which still & accessories to purchase? Also, I'd apprecite any tips regarding process, recipes, wood chips, etc... Thanks for your advise.
