"Hi guys. I oft times am the recipient of wine that is past it's prime. Most recently two cs. of Chardonnay and two 5 ltr bxs of burgundy. I know that I can use them for a sacrificial run because it will be thrown away, but what about in the future? Ethanol is ethanol so can I assume even though the wine may not be at its best the etho will still be fine if proper cuts are made?

I'm just back from vaca and it's nice to be reading the forum again."

"Hokey, welcome back. I hope you enjoyed your vacation.

It sounds like it's time to make some brandy. If that doesn't work out I'm sure you'd be able to clean it up in your column for a neutral. There's only one way to find out for sure.Wink"

Hi JB. Thanks, Great idea. I guess it will be a pretty inexpensive experiment at least.

You can try for brandy or throw it in the reflux run for neutral, works fine either way. I had some trash whiskey & tossed it in the reflux run - recovered that alcohol & tasted a lot better.

Hi Hokey,
When I did my sacrificial run I used about 3 gallons of old wine and a like amount of h20. If I had a better understanding of the proper use of my rsc the quart or so of final product I got probably would have been fine. I wound up driving the column to hard and wound up with smeard heads, hearts, and tails. It was drinkable but to crappy tasting so I tossed it in my last run and redistilled it. Hey did you get your PS2HC?

Hi MD. We saved a few hundred $$ on the cruise by buying the on board drink package. I did not know they were available. So I will have the $ for a rig like yours next week. if I do get the 15 gal kettle will a 5 gal wash work? I don't know why it wouldn't but thought I would ask. I'm not sure if I will ever have the need for the large one.
I don't have that many friends. lol
